First Priority 2010

Poverty is conquered via education and relationships.  Urban Connections Mentorship Programs are focussed on relationships, and we support the education via public schools. One barrier to education that we can fix easily is to equip students with supplies.

It cost us $9 per student for:

• Back Pack
• Basic School Supplies
• 4 dinners to encourage parent evolvement
• Prizes for acheivment and character
• presentations from successful people

We do a lot with $9! It is surprisingly difficult to find people to sponsor our work would you help?

Urbean Grand Opening Gala

Dear Charly, Urbean Café is moving from a temporary kiosk to our beautiful new location (in the same facility!), we would love for you to come out and celebrate this occasion with us, and have an opportunity to tour our facilities.

A private catered event for friends of Urban Connection, our faithful sponsors, and a chance for new introductions. The menu will feature gourmet southern comfort food – please don’t miss this event!

Urbean Café is a unique social venture aimed at helping people escape poverty through job training. We are nearly self sustaining, and with your help we will make a difference in the Akron community.

Charity Softball Game

I will be holding a softball game on the date given where all of the proceeds go to the local Akron non-profit organization Urban Connection. The money will go to help people who deal with generational poverty and who need our support. The playing cost is $15 and with that you will receive a t-shirt, food, drink(no beer) and a wide selection of prizes via a raffle. Raffle tickets will cost extra. It will be a fun day for everyone who attends but more importantly it will help a great cause.

Also buy tickets at The Urbean Cafe at the Metro transit center. Or, at Underhill games on State Road, Cuy Falls.

2nd Annual Golf Outing

Urban Connection will hold its 2nd Annual Golf Event on Monday June 28, 2010 at Ohio Prestwick Country Club. Registration brochures will be mailed and available online at www.akronmentor.com in March. Many exceptional skill and raffle prizes will be offered as well as a beautiful day of golf and fun. This event raised over $14,000 to help fund our mission to break the cycle of generational poverty so please plan on supporting the event this year as we strive to “Connect the Disconnected.”
